As I seat in a café in London, UK with friends I have come to consider my extended family, I realize it’s been an awesome week surrounded by people that make me laugh almost 24 hours a day. Orders have been placed and the regular banter has begun. I am a little quiet this morning as I am in a reflective mood. The best part of this holiday has been sampling the cuisine in this part of the world. Reading reviews, goggling addresses and trying to find a place worth the sometimes outrageous prices has also been an adventure.
As a self-proclaimed foodie, the most exciting part of traveling is always trying new food and seeing the difference in techniques, ingredients, presentation styles and ambiance. The UK has been a culinary adventure so far. From hole-in-the-wall places that serve decadent ‘cheap’ food to 2 star Michelin restaurants, my general conclusion has been that good food is good food; not necessarily expensive, or French, or needing a Michelin star. It can just be good food.
This got me thinking about how food really is a universal language and how no matter where you go, you can always find something that appeals to you, your budget and your palette. Waiting for my full option English breakfast (minus eggs) I am already thinking of where dinner would be, what experience I am going to walk away with and if I am going to re-create a recipe when I get home. I take pictures of the ambiance, thinking in my mind it will be great for the décor in my future restaurant (by God’s grace).
Either way, every meal is an adventure for me especially when I am away from home and I cannot wait for more adventures… Especially with the right person.
