It takes a special kind of vagabond skill to sit down, fire up Office and begin typing with absolutely no idea what you’re supposed to be talking about. It’s a daunting task. Three hundred and sixty five words. Reminds me of term papers or those goddamn compulsory essays we had to do in school; where we used to pad sentences with words like ‘hitherto’, ‘forthwith’ and ‘perfunctory’.
But knowing that I couldn’t do that here, I tried to think of a real topic. That took all of five minutes and I came up blank. So, I came to this blog to see how other people had done it. There were an awful lot of people with alarms starting their posts. That seemed to be the way. So, I went, got an alarm, set it and went to bed with my iPad by my side. When that alarm went off, I’d be infused with inspiration and write the shit out of this post.
Didn’t work. Alarm still sounds every day though. I must’ve done it wrong. I figured maybe it all comes down to lifestyle. I don’t hang out much (ever). I might be a little too into work sometimes (all the time) and I watch TV a little (never).
Recently I took a twitter break for a short while — two months — (which is when everything worth tweeting about happened, naturally). While I was at it, I went off Instagram, logged off Gtalk and let cobwebs grow on my blog. And because life has a sense of wicked humour, my PS3 blew.
Life has been pared down to wake up, go to work, come back home and talk to my son. We watch the same movie every day (which has made me feel very sorry for MY dad in retrospect) and then I go to bed.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Sometimes you find the beauty of life isn’t waiting for stuff to happen. It’s in enjoying the life that’s already happening to you. Don’t think you could do it? You’d be surprised.
Case in point. You just read an article about nothing.
