My alarm goes off every day at 5am. I become fully awake after 20 minutes and read my daily devotion. I say a quick prayer and head out to go for a 30 minute run. After 30 minutes today, I have completed 2.05 miles and I am sweating all over. I head to the bakery beside the park to get some hot, off the oven pandesal for my aunty and cousins. Breakfast is ready within 10 minutes as I make a green smoothie. I quickly rush into the shower and by 7.30am I’m out of the house, heading to work. As usual there’s traffic. Luckily for me, a taxi drops off someone in front of me.
“Morning, McKinley hill” I tell the driver where I’m headed to. I also mumble some Tagalog to describe where my office is.
“Are you a foreigner Ma’am?”, the taxi driver asks. I’m in no mood to tell him why I have braids on my hair and speak perfect Tagalog. So I nod my head and place my ear phones into my ears.
By 9am I’m settled at work and go through emails I have received — three new tickets for bugs that need to be fixed. None of them is due till July, but I still need to fix them in a month’s time. There are two tickets from last week which I have been trying to debug with great difficulty. My last resort will have to be to give it to a Software Engineer to go through. Normally, bugs that can’t be fixed by us Business Analyst are quickly assigned to a Software Engineer.
Nine hours later, I decide it is time to go home. I have dinner, an hour’s work out, a cold shower and I’m back to my laptop, connected to my work laptop via team viewer debugging and analyzing.
Each time I wonder why I have to do all these, I remind myself there’s money to be made, a career to be the best in and Beyonce’s body which I dream of everyday to achieve.
And this cycle continues, 3six5 days.
