It’s the little things really. Being able to wake up on Saturday morning and agreeing to not go exercising today (we’ll make it up on Monday, we vow). Then we begin our decadent day with banana pancakes. She has hers with vanilla ice cream. I have mine lightly sprinkled with cinnamon…. Then I go cut myself a nice chunk of cheesecake.
In case you’re wondering, I’m visiting my friend. You’ve met her already — Yemzel, March 5. Today, we continued our long-awaited Fringe marathon begun the night before. Thus far, it has been awesome. But how could it not be? It’s Fringe! We plan to go through Supernatural, Misfits, Falling Skies and The Following before I leave. (Here’s hoping NEPA isn’t listening in though. Those wet blankets!) Like I said, it’s the little things: being able to sit down and watch these shows with someone who gets them; having conversations about getting around the space-time conundrum; whether you’d rather be the spy or their handler; and deciding which Fringe tech we would go with should we ever decide to take over the world.
Being a gamer geek chick is hard; and being Nigerian makes it worse. Your comic book collection is seen as childish. Your love for Samurai Jack and Johnny Test is constantly ridiculed. Your many consoles get pointed out as the reason you aren’t married yet (that particular aunt is no longer welcome at my house). Therefore, I have no other recourse but to revel in the little things (yes, I am saying it again). Being able to just kick it and go full on nerd isn’t easy to come by. So this short time I’ve got, I am making the most of it. For the rest of today, I will analyse plot lines, tweet on my iOS and Android devices, make random Buffy, Veronica Mars, and Serenity references, drool over Peter Bishop (he is cute and techie terms roll so easily off his tongue), have serious discussions about mind melds vs Jedi mind tricks, and of course, binge on that double chocolate cheesecake I had ordered two days before I got here.
Because really, what are the little things if they don’t include cake?
