My phone vibrated, my alarm telling me it was 5:30am and time to haul myself out of bed. I hit snooze and prayed for a few more minutes of sleep as I rolled and pulled the duvet over my head.

5mins is over madame, Get UP! It’s 6:20am. I gave up. As I went about my morning rituals, I started a mental to-do list for the day; getting my package from Chisco being the most dreaded. I had gone on Friday and it was a fruitless journey. My package sent a week ago had not arrived and they had no explanation as to why.

Come back and check on Sunday aunty, e suppose don reach here”, I remembered the unkempt attendant saying with no assurance.

Heading to work, I took a cab with the radio tuned to Wazobia FM’s presenter complaining about road safety officials extorting some fellow — Old News I thought. I was grateful the Abuja sun wasn’t out yet, wishing today was Sunday as I really needed the rest. I had travelled to Dekina in Lokoja for a close friend’s traditional wedding on Friday and danced, komoled and pakurumoed our knees out to Igala music on Saturday as we took her to meet her suitor.

Settled in at work, I got down to surfing the internet with Beyonce’s voice cheering me on (who run the world? GIRLS!). Eating some saved wedding cake, I started ticking off everything on my list for the day. Only you, a Korean drama, played on the TV close to my desk. It’s just7:30am.

As I stood in the package collection area that smelled like fish, I found my name. They got my package out, the attendant asking for identification and saying I could pay N200 if I did not have one. Shaking my head, I thought Corruption runs deep!

I showed him my voter’s card, filled the register and collected my package. I dragged the traveling bag and got a cab home. Good thing I went before noon!

3 things off my to-do list, I sent a BBM and Whatsapp message to my friends informing them of the good news. The day could only get better and it did.
