I was jolted awake by the sound of my phone at 6.18am. It was my friend calling. I was supposed to confirm our trip to the famous IDUMOTA market last night but forgot.
We spoke. I decided she shouldn’t bother anymore as I wasn’t sure we could be back in time. I had received an email informing me of a training between 12- 2.30pm today, meaning I had to be back from the market by then. I went back to bed but 3 minutes later decided to go ahead with the trip — it would be her last chance before relocating to Abuja next week. I called her back and we agreed on a meeting point.
10 minutes into shopping at the market, I was already feeling tired; I couldn’t find any of the things I wanted so decided to go handbag shopping. Ended up buying a lot of bags — never had I bought as many as these at once in my entire life but I was happy and had an idea of the prices of those items I originally intended to buy. I left the market after 2 hours and discovered I didn’t know Lagos, despite having lived here for almost three decades. I wasn’t willing to pay the exorbitant amount for a taxi. Thankfully, I got to my destination (without getting lost), in record time too, spending #200 as against #2500 for a cab.
I slept through the 2 hour training, waking up intermittently so as not to be caught, and managed to get the conclusion. I left the venue intending to continue the nap at home only to get locked out. The same thing happened yesterday. Did I mention I was very hungry and was looking forward to cooking a wholesome meal before sleeping? I was angry but decided not to dwell on it. I remembered I had to make my hair so I went to the salon, unfortunately my regular hair dresser was busy.
I still couldn’t get anything to eat. Somehow I remembered a friend who’d come back into town from Asaba on Thursday. I called her — thankfully she had food.
Then it was 6:30pm; food sorted I began to head out to church
