Cookoo-roooo-kooooo! Yea, that was my neighbour’s cockerel. It’s been my alarm since I relocated to Nigeria. For months now, I have been waking up with fear; fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of tomorrow. Today was no different; my heart was ‘twerking’.
I slid open my rusty phone. Hmm, no IMs? I don’t think people like me that much. The yellow email notification pops up; that should be those ‘groupon’ or ‘dealdey’ emails. I was wrong. I read and I smiled. It seems like it’s going to be a good day.
“Dudu, wetin you go chop?” my cousin asked. I told him I wanted boiled turkey and ice tea. Please don’t judge my choice. I have come to accept my one pack as opposed to the six-pack abs ladies out there swoon over. My consolation is that they can only drool over the pictures they see in magazines and on TV.
2.08pm: Lagos traffic today is like badly made eba and sour stew. Horrible! I need to control my road rage. But thank God for Superyogo and CoolFM. By the way, who is that lady called ‘Shyne’ that presents with Manny on the CoolFM morning show. I kinda like how she sounds.
3.01pm: I hate GTBank, the queue is always like we are struggling to get to heaven. But I do like to go there because there is this cute teller that smiles at me each time I go there. I’m sure she is thinking “good-looking but empty account”.
Its 5.33pm and I had to make a quick stop at the car repair shop. Had to get the wheel balance and alignment done. And in my head, all I can think is ‘Ariyike’. I am in love, no doubt about it. Maybe that explains my ‘twerking’ heart. It should be.
It is another day tomorrow, and I will be doing the same thing I try to do every day, and that is to take over the world.
