I love travelling and have always dreamt of “being around the world. I wondered what kind of job I would have that would pay for my expensive dream and I got the right one. This year alone, I have lived in 8 cities…I love it!
I went to work on Monday morning and for some reason, boss lady was in the mood for roasted corn and pears. After eating the meal, I felt all kind of chills run through my spine. By evening, I was shivering uncontrollably and could barely see. I swallowed painkillers like my life depended on it and by morning I was feeling top-notch again.
Tuesday was great and I made sure I stayed away from roasted corn but by Wednesday I was down again. I never fall sick and I was so sure this was just another bout of migraine. Boss lady would not hear of me coming to work this week. By Thursday, the mother was not having any of my superman moves. If I was not feeling better by Friday, she was dragging me to the hospital. All these buzz kills. Do they not know that I am invincible?
By Friday I was even worse and was taken to the doctor who almost agreed with me that it was just the silly migraine. As an after thought he decided to conduct malaria and typhoid tests. I said rather haughtily that the last time I had malaria was over a decade ago and I had never had typhoid.
Lo and behold, it was typhoid. Imagine the horror I went through and the pride I had to swallow. I went home and was an absolute nuisance. I am not a nice sick person apparently, thankfully my cousin was around and she took such good care of me.
Here I am, in bed, wondering what life has been like without me. No, I am not conceited; I just never appreciated the kind of good health I have enjoyed and the fact that life can go on without me. Oh well, I am back to my two favourite things in the world: my kindle and my “Phantom of the Opera”.
