9:45am

Haven’t had a proper meal in days so it’s straight from bed to kitchen for me this morning. My lazy ass ain’t getting in my way of a hearty breakfast of rice and chicken.

11:45 am

Took like forever, breakfast brunch is finally served . A few sips of juice and forks of rice later, I realize I’ve lost my appetite :(. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother cooking. Oh yes… it’s cheaper.

3:45pm

Not yet fully recovered from force-feeding myself earlier. I had an agenda for today but YouTube got in the way. It’s interesting to observe how much more addictive it gets when you no longer have to wait for videos to buffer.

I’ve managed to turn it off, I’m staring blankly at my laptop. She glares back like “so what now”? It’s just another bout of coder’s block. It’s like the programmer’s version of writer’s block, only worse. My team members mustn’t find out I did nothing since yesterday :(

4:45 pm

Been like 30 minutes since I buzzed Oge on whatsapp; no response. Her network’s been acting up for the past few days. It seems our Naija networks are actually getting worse since the portability craze began. The other day I was with dad over the phone. We had to redial at least 10 times to complete our convo.

I had plans for a 2-week vacation back home — my supervisor has other plans for me. I’m gutted I don’t get to spend my birthday in Nigeria next month.

5:20 pm

Oge still hasn’t replied. I have to leave for choir rehearsals in at least 20 minutes or I’ll be late.

The African choir is like my family away from home. Ironically, the choir is dominated by Nigerians. It’s funny, but when we use the word “African”, it sounds to me like we really mean “Nigeria and other countries”. There’s probably like 7 Nigerians for every 10 Africans in this town. Na wa oh. We no dey carry last.

8:35 pm

Rehearsal was a blast, most definitely the highlight of my day. I guess I should go back to my coding now, see if I can draw some inspiration from the singing. But not before I do that leftover rice some justice.
