Last night, I experienced being rescued from a mechanic at a workshop by a mechanic on the road side. After working on my car and assuring me that everything was ok a day before, my car totally disappointed me at 9.30pm on Ikorodu road, far away from home. After taking 20mins to get the car to the side and wondering what to do, God sent an Angel in the guise of a road side mechanic; thank God for a toolbox I stole from my dad. The mechanic after dismantling the front wheels performed a miracle. I got home by 11.15pm, bushed, and was in bed almost immediately.
I woke up an hour and a half late this morning, the alerts of TGIF! on my phone from friends surely didn’t put a smile on my face. I crashed through the process of getting ready for work in all of 30mins. Then the next hurdle — Do I risk driving to the island at this time? The last time I did, I got to work at 9.30m.
Alternative? BRT! Let’s accept it, Fashola has done some things for Lagos. On the bus (standing), I looked at other people, trying to read their minds: Are people really happy? Happy to go to wherever it was they go to everyday? I know I wasn’t. I hate my job and my self research showed that 80% of Nigerians are not happy with where they have to go; meaning that there are only two happy people on this bus! That guy in ‘native’ smiling to himself is surely one of them. Probably has a beautiful girl at work that makes up 80% of his work day. Reason enough to be happy going to work.
Got here by 8.30am. I am blessed with a boss that is also a drinking buddy, so I am covered. Work is same as always, monotonous. Going through Game of Thrones Season 3 again, whilst working. My drinking buddy boss has a date today and plans to leave 30mins early (coded). Giving me the eye, he asks me if I want to tag along on his date.
Hell no! But yeah! to leaving this joint 30mins early!
