July 5, 2013 - Winnie

July 4th happened to be my birthday, so I went to work and then tried to party hard, which in my case would be swinging hot Latin Dancing. The next day however started with a bang of sorts — my friend had been up all night, crying. She had just found out (on twitter) that her boyfriend was engaged to be married to a girl in The United States. The dude had said he was going for a vacation, the truth was he was going for his court wedding. I tried to console her, to little effect, which was how I ended up waking up today still in my birthday clothes and had to get ready for work.

I quickly rush a shower so I can meet up with a neighbour going my way (free rides are awesome in the mornings :) ). Then I get to work and see the flowers given to me the day before by a dear friend of mine and I smile, remembering what happened up until a few minutes to 12am on July 4th (walk on the beach, cool breeze, wine, wine glasses, sand, toes…..awesome).

Today is all work, and no play with two major objectives — finish editing a document going to Benin and then find a way to keep my friend happy while fending off the numerous invitations for post- birthday celebrations.

By 3pm I am still stuck on page 66 of 182. I need to finish this in time and then go hunting for a laminating machine. Work closes at 4pm and I definitely don’t want to come back to work on a Saturday. So I continue working. It is still raining. Somewhere in between, I manage to get my friend to leave the house and come over to the office so I can keep an eye on her.

The plan, if it is indeed one, is to take her out for drinks get her distracted.
