“Happy Birthday to you … chachacha … Are you one? Are you two? Are you three? …”
The kids are really screaming the song, I don’t think they have had to count up to 25 before; They seem to be loving it though, I’m just here hoping the candle doesn’t burn to the end before they are done.
It’s my last day working at the cooking school. I start my full time job as an engineer on Monday. I am really going to miss teaching kids about food.
About a week ago a friend asked me if I am where I thought I would be at 25. It took a while for me to answer that. Looking back at the last 25 years I would say I have done pretty well; went to school, didn’t commit any major crimes, made a few mistakes, tried my best to learn from them, took a lot of risks, and basically lived the 25 years to the fullest. I played house as a growing child, cooked with sand and flowers and climbed trees. I lived like a teenager at the right time, had crushes and broken hearts and made all the mistakes that helped blossom me into a well balanced adult.
Maybe everything is not as perfect as I would like it but I have lived a pretty darn good 25 years, I am proud of where I am. I don’t have it all but the little that I have achieved has been with hard work and a lot of learning from mistakes.
“Are you twenty-four? Are you twenty-five?”
“Stop”, I yell, and proceed to make a wish and blow my single candle. Maybe I will get a cake with 25 candles later in the evening with my friends, do this again and make some brand new wishes.
