July 22, 2013 - Marian

Given it was my weekend to work, I thought I’d be coming off work this morning exhausted, sleep-drive home while humming Jesus take the wheel and try to write about my weekend.

However, I had to cut my work weekend short because I have what is known as the Summer Cough!!!!! who gets a cold in the summer??? Me!!!! Allow me to quote the ‘Great’ singer Vic O who said/sang/rapped??? Why? Why? Why Evils?

My poor patients had to listen to their nurse cough her way through their assessments on Saturday. It went something like this. Hello! *cough cough* My name is *cough* sorry, I have the summer cough, but yea, My name is Marian and I WiLL *cough…

Anyways, I just got back in from dropping my sis off at work. OMG!!! Heaven is a MUST!!!!!! I repeat!!! Heaven!!!!!! Is a MUST!! I doubt the devil gon’ be handing out sunscreen. It felt like 100 degrees, I’m pretty sure I have first degree burn on my thighs (don’t wear shorts to drive when your car has been in the sun all day).

On my way back, I found myself at the McDonalds drive through in desperate need of a frozen drink where my mom’s voice popped in my head just as I was about to order *ma je kin ri e o ku mu nkan tutu (translation: don’t let me catch you drinking something cold). This cough is really dulling me mehn, and being the obedient daughter that I am *wink* I resisted the urge to order a frozen strawberry lemonade and only got the 20piece McNugget.

Something else that’s been on my mind all day is this disturbing news I’m hearing about some Nigerian senators wanting to make child marriages legal. I hate joining the bandwagon without doing some kind of research. I found out there is actually a Child rights act that protects children from been married off before the age of 18 and that’s different from the part in the constitution about “any woman who is married shall be “deemed to be of “full age.”

excerpt

So shouldn’t that energy be directed towards having this child rights act enforced in all states? What I gathered from the research is that since 2003 when this bill was introduced only 16 of the 36 states in Nigeria have passed it. Can someone please tell me what the other states are waiting for?
