I woke up this morning with a groan. Dear God, not again. I buried myself under the covers, willing sleep to return. Ugh! After three weeks of pure bliss, my students were back, and I had a morning class to go to. I finally managed to drag myself out of the door and out the house. I get to school….and no one’s there. Well, not no one, there are kids sitting around. But none of us want to have a class. So we sit around and talk about their plans for the future and the potential hilarity of a Patience vs Soyinka debate.

Hi. I’m a teacher. I teach A level Biology at some schools in some town. Yes, I said schools. Which means that though I did not have to teach this morning, I still had another school to visit in the evening. I went home first though to rest, have the breakfast I’d had prepared but didn’t eat, and pick up the cake I knew my students would never let me hear the end of if I didn’t carry along.

Don’t imagine I’m a nice teacher. I hate kids. I just do these things so they don’t piss me completely off. That whole catching more flies with honey than vinegar thing really works! Who knew?!

So anyway, I get there. The brats grab the cakes (I’d brought them chunks of vanilla, red velvet, and double chocolate cake) and my precious boiled corn. I mete out my revenge by marking the test I’d given them at the last class. I then turn in the screws by splashing even more red ink all over their corrections. Oh the joy.

And then, we round off class with my students telling me about their day (like I care) and showing me what the other biology teacher taught them earlier. It would seem that my respected colleague took it upon himself to teach the kids Human Reproduction. Sadly however, though brave soul that he is, he could not bring himself to spell out vagina.
