July 14, 2013 — Berry Dakara

July 14, 2013 - berry dakara

If I had known beforehand, how my day would go, then I probably would not have opted to fill in the space for today’s 3six5ng entry. I would have wanted to appear as my cheery, happy-go-lucky, bubbly self.

I would have written about how Cakes and I (now engaged) continued our meeting-the-family rounds, discussed wedding plans, and just generally continued being a happy couple. Well, in a manner of speaking, we did do all that. But there was a glitch in my day… we had a fight. One that lasted for a few hours, with unsavory words flying around (hey, I’m no ANGEL), and tears streaming down my face (yeah, I can be a drama queen).

Relationships are hard. As a matter of fact, I think relationships should be called Rollercoasters. Like, “Hello, my name is Berry and I am on a rollercoaster with Cakes.” Yeah, that makes sense. After all, how does a person go from being excited to seeing her beloved in the morning, to proudly showing off said beloved to her family, to being so upset that she wants to curl up into a ball and cry herself to sleep, to wishing she hadn’t overreacted, and finally to hoping he comes by to give her hug before she goes to bed — all of this, within a span of 12 hours? Yup, I’m definitely on a rollercoaster.

But then again, that’s how love (LIFE, actually) is. It isn’t one smooth ride. It has ups and downs, highs and lows, mountains and valleys, peaks and dips, etc. There are times when everything is rosy, and the croaks of hundreds of frogs outside my window sound instead like Disney birds, chirp-chirp-chirping love songs, and I feel like I am floating. Then there are other times, like today, when things are iffy and a solitary raindrop seems like a tsunami, and I feel like I’m drowning. Tomorrow could be different, no roses or rain; just a plateau without elation or desolation.

Through all of the above times (and others), there has been one constant: the choice and commitment we have both made to remain on this rollercoaster.

Cakes, I love you and I’m sorry I overreacted.

Berry Dakara didn’t lose 13lbs before her birthday, like she promised in her last post. She promises to lose them before her wedding. And let the congregation say, IN JESUS’ NAME, AMEN!!!
