Last night was fun — in the presence of the Lord at Km46 Lagos-Ibadan ExpressWay. I thought about going to the beach but was too tired to get to the jetty for noon.

Since I embraced the new birth, I’ve been in a constant battle with my old self. The old me was sarcastic, sharp-tongued & took no nonsense from anyone. It’s no easy battle. Today’s devotional — the Daily Hope with Rick Warren — spoke to me. I learnt from it that the reason why I’m failing in the battle against my old self is because I’m doing it alone. Revealing and not ignoring my old nature is the beginning of healing.

This morning I took my mum to the airport, gave the driver N1,000 for parking, waited for my mum to check-in and clear immigration and then called the driver to pick me from Departures. He told me that the vehicle had been towed. He definitely never went into the car park! Good thing was my friend came to meet me at the airport. We drove down to the pound and had to pay N10,500 to release the car. The old me would have told the driver off in several words and dialects; but I calmly paid the money and left. The driver was in shock at the lack of a reaction — he still is wondering, at least until his April salary is paid less N10,500.

I believe being a Christian shouldn’t mean you are weak. People will try to take advantage and test you, but by taking charge of the situation and not losing your cool, you can let Christ’s light shine.

Next time someone reminds me of who I used to be, I’m not gonna get upset and pretend I wasn’t that person. I’ll acknowledge I used to be that girl but have changed for the better, using the old me to show how amazing God’s love is and how He turned my life around.

My focus is to lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles me, and run with endurance the race that is set before me. The race isn’t easy but I’ve gotta run it. I better start enjoying the process.
