April 4, 2013 — Taynement
I drive into the parking space in front of my apartment building. I was able to get off work on time today, making it possible to get my preferred parking spot.
15 minutes later, I am still sitting in my car. I smile to myself. How many times have I done this — parked my car and sat in it for God knows how long because there’s a song playing that I’d like to hear to the end? Today, it is Specimen A’s Le’m Anya. A song I always used to skip but which now brings a smile to my face because it was the song one of my closest friends danced to, with her husband, into the reception hall. Good memories.
My life is full of memories. My days make up my memories. My days are filled with music. No really it is.
I sleep with my TV on and in the middle of the night my dreams mesh with whatever music is playing on MTV or VH1. When I am fully awake, I am trying to get myself together with VH1’s “Jump Start” playing in the background. When I make my way to my bathroom, my trusty blue boom box which my best friend gave me in college sits on the counter to keep me company as I brush, scrub, wash and fiddle with my hair. On my way to work, music plays in the car. When I am at work, my iPod is my trusty companion.
I think back to major events in my life and I associate a song with them. Those glorious moments, when I discover new music or rediscover old music. That feeling when you hear a song and the lyrics just GET every incoherent thought in your mind that you couldn’t express. Very comforting to know that someone else in the world feels that way.
*Bark*
… oops neighbor is walking one of those scary creatures aka dogs. It’s been 30 minutes now. I better hike up these stairs and go get ready for yoga class. My teacher always has a theme to the music he plays. I wonder what it’ll be today.
But it doesn’t really matter, as long as there’s music.
