April 3, 2013 — Ms Oreoluwa

I kept drifting in and out of sleep and when I got tired at 6:38am I got dressed and went for a run. At the back of my mind, I kept thinking of this Lagos heat I had heard so much about. An hour later I came back just in time to snooze my 7:30 alarm and get my day started.
Took a shower, got dressed, went down and realized my car was not home — turns out my mother gave it out. I did not mind, I was sooooooo ready for an upgrade anyways so I took my brother’s.
Attempted to sort out my Airtel SIM which had not started working 10 hours after being the first person to be attended to. Clearly the fact that I was early doesn’t count for shit.
Stopped by my friend’s office to surprise her. And she was pleasantly surprised — cue lots of screaming, screeching and squealing, and more importantly questions like “What are you doing here?” and “How did you get here?” You’d think by now everyone knows the only way to get to Nigeria from Scotland was by air!
Stopped over at my friend’s house and met his sister’s fiancé, who by the way is so absolutely adorable. He also told me the estate gate was being renovated for 12 million Naira. I had not seen it yet so I was indifferent.
Then I picked up my home girl to drag around Lagos while catching up on Lagos gossip news. En-route the saloon to take out my locks, I experienced a little bit of that good ol “Good luck traffic” which I nicely avoided by rerouting my journey through Lagos Island. I finally got to the mainland, took out my locks and saw my aunt. All the while wondering where the much vaunted Lagos heat was.
I got home. I saw the new estate gate.
12 million Naira ke?
